Staying Well Hydrated
If it is one thing that people need to be cognizant of, it’s the fact that you should be consuming at least eight or more glasses of water per day.Not only does water keep you hydrated, but there have been studies which show that drinking plenty of water will also stave off hunger as well as help you to feel slightly more satiated prior to eating, thereby forcing you to eat less at meals. This is often a fact that is overlooked by those who are trying to eat healthier or who are experiencing problems with weight loss because of portion control issues. By consuming water prior to eating meals, you are helping to control your intake of food (I.e. portion control) because you already feel a little more full.
There are some people who simply don’t like the taste of water. Either, they think it is too bland or too plain. For these people, there is hope. For instance, many of us are unaware of the fact that we actually absorb quite a bit of water in a variety of other ways. There are plenty of foods, fruits and vegetables that contain a large amount of water in them. Fruits are especially notorious for containing a good amount of water. Things such as watermelon, grapefruit, oranges and cantaloupe are just a few examples of juicy fruits that not only satiate hunger but quench your thirst as well.
During the summer months, it is especially important to make sure that your body is receiving adequate amounts of nutrition in the form of water. Because the human body is made up of approximately seventy five percent water, it is no wonder that we need to make sure we are hydrated. And while dehydration is something that many of us experience due to our lack of water intake, there is also something called over hydration in which someone is consuming too much water. While it is a little more difficult to over hydrate your body, it is not impossible and the consequences can be just as devastating. When our bodies are dehydrated, we are often made aware of this fact because we can feel that our mouths are dry or parched. However, the biggest mistake that people make with dehydration is that they wait until their bodies tell them that they are thirsty. If you suddenly feel really thirsty, it is too late; you are already dehydrated. In order to prevent dehydration from occurring, simply sip on water throughout the day.
Water play an important role in all of our lives. For example, studies have linked staying hydrated to improved brain function and coordination. If that’s not a motivating factor for throwing back a few glasses of water, I don’t know what is! Additionally, water can act as a stimulant to help us maintain healthy bowels. For example, doctors recommend drinking at least one to two glasses first thing in the morning after you brush your teeth to help move your bowels. Whether you are getting the majority of your hydration in the form of healthy fruits and veggies, food or teas, just make sure that you are keeping yourself hydrated. After all, it is important for your health!
