If you do not already have perfect teeth, you can make them perfect through cosmetic dentistry. There are several cosmetic procedures that will do the trick, including veneers, caps (also known as crowns), and implants.

Ever heard of an actor who had all his front teeth capped? That’s another way of creating a new smile. A cap, also known as a crown, is a fake tooth that permanently caps your real tooth. Caps can be created from a variety of materials, depending upon the specific location and the money you wish to spend. They emulate the look of a real teeth quite well; no one will know the difference. To install a cap, the dentist will grind down the enamel of the tooth until it resembles a round peg. The cap is then cemented atop the peg. If properly taken care of, a cap should last ten to fifteen years.

Implants are the most durable, permanent cosmetic work to replace missing teeth, but they are by no means inexpensive or a quick fix. Typically, they take anywhere from three to six months to install. First, the dentist drills a hole in your jaw where the tooth is missing. He then widens the hole and installs an implant screw. This implant screw will eventually anchor a permanent crown. For now, the dentist will put a temporary cap on it while he allows the next step to happen: osseointegration. That is where the bone will grow around the implant screw and securely hold it in place. Once that happens, in three to six months, the temporary cap is replaced with a permanent crown. If properly taken care of, your implant should last thirty years or more.

These procedures will only increase in popularity with time as more and more people take advantage of them. Every year, new technology continues to advance dental cosmetics. New materials are stronger and last longer than older compounds.
